Phonetic literacy is an extension of the body in 
the way that the wheel or clothing are extensions 
of the body. Electricity, however, is not an 
extension of any position of the body but rather 
of the central nervous system itself. That is, the 
instant character of electricity introduces the 
principle of interrelation that is antithetic to all 
earlier technologies which in effect had 
fragmented and extended the body by way of
